Cyril Ronald Pammenter was born on 6th June 1914 in Swaffham Prior (Newmarket Q3-1914 3B:864), son of James and Sarah Jane PAMMENTER (née SANGSTER). CWGC have his parents as of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

In the 1939 register Cyril (general labourer, and brother James H [22-12-1911] horseman on farm, were at 10 Mill Hill, Swaffham Prior with Eric J PRESTON [3-4-1911, cowman on farm and his wife Rose M [15-5-1916]. There are two closed records.



The 5th East East Yorkshire, having fought in North Africa, were still with the 8th Army when they landed in Sicily on 9th/10th July 1943
The 5th August was the day that Catania and Paterno were captured by the British 8th Army. 5 of the 5th Battalion were killed.
Cyril was re-interred in Catania on 7th April 1944. His original burial place is not known.
